Happy 30th Anniversary to the Toodyay Friends of the River Group

Way back in 1994, Wayne Clark, a recent resident of Toodyay placed the following advertisement in the local newspaper:-

“Can you imagine the Avon and surrounds being a feature of Toodyay, a place you can amble beside, admiring its features and birdlife? Probably not, particularly with the river in its present state. Well those dreams can become a reality if our community is willing to help. The Toodyay Friends of the River will hold its inaugural meeting at Saturday 10 December 1994 at 1pm near the bridge at Duidgee Park”.

Fast forward 30 years and I had the privilege of representing Wheatbelt NRM at the 30 year birthday celebrations of Toodyay Friends of the River (or TFOR) on 7 December 2024 and accepting a “Certificate of Appreciation” for our support of TFOR along with other local community groups.

Thanks to the visionary, Wayne Clark, his colleagues and TFOR for working so hard to transform their dream to a reality where the Avon River at Toodyay is “a local feature, a place we can amble beside, admiring its features and birdlife”.

Here’s to another 30 years!
