Forage for Nature

Wheatbelt NRM are excited to announce our new Sustainable Agriculture project “Forage for Nature” supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.

Following the success of our Optimising Fodder for Mixed Farming project, we will continue to partner with mixed farmers in the Avon River Basin to establish biodiverse forage systems to increase ground cover and protect soils from erosion, improve soil condition and increase farm productivity while improving biodiversity and natural capital value. On-farm demonstrations will show-case a dual approach to increasing agricultural productivity and natural capital value using methods that align with potential carbon and biodiversity markets. This knowledge will be extended across the wheatbelt through workshops and case studies.

Expressions of interest will be open in early 2025 so keep an eye on this space, our social media platforms and our interim website for the cue to apply.
