South West Vertebrate Pest Management Forum
The Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group (PHBG) is hosting the South West Vertebrate Pest Management Forum on 24th & 25th June 2025 at the Pinjarra Civic Centre. This event builds on last year’s forum, incorporating valuable feedback to make it even more effective.
The PHBG wants this to be a South West-wide event, not just focused on the Peel region.
The first day will bring together landholders with the second day bringing together stakeholders and Licensed Pest Management Technicians (LPMTs)
Below is a rough guide based on key topics and queries raised over the past year.
Day 1 – Landholder-Focused
The first day is tailored for landholders, with potential topics including:
New firearm legislation and its impact on pest control
Best practices for baiting—what to use, when, and for which species
Emerging threats to the region
New technologies available for pest management
Guidance on fumigation and other control methods
Day 2 – Stakeholder & LPMT-Focused
The second day will bring together stakeholders and Licensed Pest Management Technicians (LPMTs) to improve cross-organisational communication, leading to more effective and coordinated pest control efforts across government agencies, NFPs, and other groups.
Potential topics include:
A South West check-in from NFPs involved in pest control (LBG, BBG, PHCC, SWNRM, etc.)—sharing updates on current priorities and identifying areas where collaboration or support is needed
A session on handling criticism on social media, effective communication strategies, and improving social licence
Updates on state and national focus groups, including key insights from the past year and upcoming initiatives
Across Both Days
Equipment demonstrations – If your group has unique tools or setups, let us know so we can allocate space (we understand field-based setups will be subject to availability)
Trade stands – Available for those wanting to showcase products or services
