WA Sandalwood Plantations (WASP) Project Underway

Sustainable Agriculture

The latest round of our Trials and Demonstration projects are getting under way.

Last week saw us out with the WA Sandalwood Plantations (WASP) people, on their property, selecting sites and sandalwood trees to apply fertiliser to in July.

The application of fertiliser is a common practice in forestry plantations but this will be the first time that fertiliser has been added to a WA native sandalwood plantation.

The trial will evaluate growth rates and heartwood development under two different fertiliser regimes, and across three soil types (deep sand, sandy duplex, heavy loam-clay).

At the end of the trial, the project will provide recommendations of sustainable fertiliser management practices for growers, providing valuable information for the 10,000ha of sandalwood managed by WASP and 10,000 ha of other sandalwood plantations across the Wheatbelt.

Data will be added to the agtrialsites.com as they become available.
