$15 million Carbon Farming Opportunity Draws Closer

Wheatbelt landholders with carbon farming aspirations should be on the lookout for the key information about the State Government’s $15 million Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Program this quarter.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development will release a detailed investment priority guide and co-benefits standard with the program guidelines in the first quarter of 2021.

The stated objective of the CF-LRP is to “unlock the potential of carbon farming in the South West agricultural zone”, and help rural businesses to set-up projects that deliver priority environmental, community and economic co-benefits.

These co-benefits include biodiversity and conservation, agricultural productivity, salinity mitigation, soil health and Aboriginal economic and cultural co-benefits.

The first round of applications are due to take place later this year.

The following rural businesses and entities are eligible to participate in the program:

  • Not-for-Profit entities undertaking a project under commercial arrangements with the owner/s of a farm properties or properties.
  • Carbon farming developers undertaking a project under commercial arrangements with the owner/s of a farm property/properties, and;
  • Commercial farm property owners.
