Drought Fund provides opportunities for Wheatbelt farmers

A recent announcement by the Australian Government has provided opportunities for several groups across the Wheatbelt and mid-west to deliver on groundwork to build drought resilience on agricultural landscapes.

Drought is an enduring feature of the Australian landscape. It has significant economic, social, and environmental impacts.

The $5 billion Future Drought Fund provides secure, continuous funding for drought resilience initiatives. It will help Australian farms and communities prepare for the impacts of drought.

The Corrigin Farm Improvement Group will look at soil moisture retention technology and demonstrate that using this technology at seeding can increase success. The West Midlands Group will investigate how using satellite imagery to monitor ground cover will support decision-making on when livestock should be removed to best preserve ground cover.

Congratulations to all the WA project recipients.

This is just one of several programs that form part of the fund and over the next few years we would like to see even more of these projects tackling the issues of the WA Wheatbelt
