Reconciliation is everyone’s business

Aboriginal NRM

As part of National Reconciliation Week Wheatbelt NRM staff were given the opportunity to tell their work story using Noongar language symbols by creating a collage-style wall canvas depicting our key purpose across each program.

Thanks to the talented staff from Northam SHS who organised art supplies and explained the meaning of symbols so that all staff could create a meaningful artwork that will be displayed in the Wheatbelt NRM office.

The activity brought people together, helping non-Aboriginal staff gain understanding of Noongar language and culture in a meaningful way that conveyed their day-to-day work with cultural story-telling. Our visiting artists also learned more about what we do to manage the region’s natural resources and engage with people in the community.

Staff also participated in Cultural Awareness Training and reviewed our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to develop a renewed commitment to its ongoing implementation.

Wheatbelt NRM already work closely with our Aboriginal community. National Reconciliation Week was an opportunity to progress further along this reconciliation journey.
