Being prepared is the best response

Climate change is magnifying the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events in our region. The recent long dry spell, punctuated with heatwave events, has taken its toll on our native vegetation with many established trees and shrubs dying this season.

Preparing for this future by increasing the resilience of your landscape and preparing for emergencies is crucial to ensure your patch can weather the storms….and floods, bushfires, heatwaves and biosecurity hazards that may occur.

To help you navigate in this space, Wheatbelt NRM Inc. recently completed the first Biodiversity & Agricultural Natural Capital Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan for the Avon River Basin report and it will be available to the community soon.

While you are waiting for our best tips on how to create an emergency resilient landscape, Wheatbelt NRM and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water are proud to bring you a Free Native Trees Giveaway Event to bring some joy (and resilience) following the long dry spell.

Outside the Merredin Community Resource Centre from 10.30am – 11.30am 20th June 2024

We will have 2000 healthy Eucalyptus and Casuarina seedlings ready to find their new home in your yard! Bring a box or paper bag to put your trees in.

Our Wheatbelt NRM Board of Directors will be hosting the event so bring your questions and comments down to discuss with the people who lead NRM action in our region.
