Wheatbelt takes lead on Corella Control

Posted in:
Sustainable Agriculture

We understand that the community is concerned about the growing population of corellas in the Wheatbelt, and their impact on country. As a result, our Project Delivery Officer Jacquie Lucas, is asking for your help with a short survey we are conducting. Your information will allow us to develop a strategy to better manage the increasing population of Corellas.

Corellas are known to have damaging effects on both our natural and built environments. Not only do they compete with endangered native species such as the Carnabys cockatoos for nesting hollows (sometimes even removing eggs), but they can also cause crop losses by digging up plants looking for seeds and damaging trees, they impact our sporting grounds by pulling up grasses, damage electrical wiring and implements, fouling water and buildings.
