Lakes ready for summer season

Water

The Living Lakes project aims to improve the water quality and volume in two of our Wheatbelt recreational lakes to provide opportunities for the local community through increased use and visitor numbers.

Lake Yealering is well known for its recreational use and recent engineering works managed by Wheatbelt NRM aim to keep the water in the lake for longer to extend the summer season. Water has been consistently flowing into the lake all winter via the new entry channel.

The second lake – Lake Ewlyamartup at Katanning is entering the finalisation stage for the construction work.

Control gates are in place and the water levels are high up these structures indicating they are doing the job of keeping the water in the lake.

The community are looking forward to seeing how the water levels go over summer.

Next step is carrying out foreshore improvements to provide for community use. Wheatbelt NRM and the community groups are working with a landscape architect to develop opportunities appropriate for our Wheatbelt climate.
