One of the country’s most prominent soil health conferences, Talkin’ Soil Health, is making its biennial return to York on 17 and 18 March 2022 with the theme of “Building Resilience From The Subsoil Up”.

Following Wheatbelt NRM’s successful Future Drought Fund’s Networks to Build Drought Resilience grant funding announcement from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), event planning has commenced in earnest.

A key component of the event is the announcement of the Regional Soil Health Champions.

A Soil Health Champion is a farmer who demonstrates a personal commitment to sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and improving the health of their soils.

Project Manager, Felicity Gilbert, says of the award, “Our Soil Health Champions have always been people who strive for excellence in the food that they produce. They believe that healthy soils are not an option – they are mandatory.”

She goes on to say, “This is a wonderful opportunity for our tenth Wheatbelt farmer to join a select group of innovative soil health leaders. If you know of someone who is working to improve the health of their soils – or are someone doing this on your own farm - we encourage you to nominate.”

Nominations for the Wheatbelt Soil Health Champion are now open and can be completed on the Talkin’ Soil Health website (www.soilhealth.com.au/soil-health-champion).

The nomination period closes on 28 November 2021 with the regional winners announced at the Talkin’ Soil Health Conference Dinner on Thursday, 17 March 2022.

Talkin’ Soil Health 2022 is supported by funding from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
