Meet Our Newest Nature Detectives

Hotspot Heroes

A band of 30 Hotspot Heroes descended on Toodyay during the April school holidays to hone their powers of investigation.

A Beautiful Wheatbelt Backdrop

The picturesque Toodyay Golf Club provided the perfect location for our budding nature detectives. With a large patch of pristine habitat, our Hotspot Heroes learned all about the native species that call the area home.

They then pulled on their boots to explore the area. By identifying burrows, scratchings and droppings our Hotspot Heroes were able to deduce that the golf club is home to echidnas, kangaroos, possums and a huge range of invertebrates.

Hotspot Heroes Get Their Science On

Armed with the knowledge from Captain Numbat’s new friends at Know Your Patch, the Heroes completed their first-ever habitat assessment. They took a look at things like the number of trees, shrubs and the presence of leaf litter to determine that Toodyay Golf Club’s bushland was indeed, healthy.

Captain Numbat would like to thank the team at Know Your Patch for such a fun and enjoyable morning in Toodyay.

The next Hotspot Heroes Training Day to be held during the July school holidays will have a water theme. To get on board, join the Hotspot Heroes.
