We are pleased to share that the engineering works at Lake Yealering which are part of the Royalties for Regions’ Living Lakes program have been completed.

This work focuses on two lakes in the Wheatbelt, Lake Yealering and Lake Ewlyamartup at Katanning, and is undertaking engineering works that will ensure water is held in the lakes for longer, water quality is maintained and subsequently, the lakes can be used for recreational and tourism outcomes for much longer into the season.

The construction work includes bunds and control gates that can manually manage water flows in and out to ensure water volumes and quality. Management of the control structures will be overseen by the Shire of Wickepin with the local community group.

Now that the work is finished we move on to progressing a marketing and tourism plan with the community which will look at events and attractions as well as a foreshore improvement plan which will identify infrastructure works for lake amenity.

The aim is the lake continues to be an asset to the local community and helps drive economic development through tourism.

Finishing Lake Yealering also allows mobilisation of equipment to Lake Ewlyamartup to ensure the planned works there can be completed.
