Perennials for Profits Demonstration Sites

Seven more sites across the Wheatbelt have been selected to take part in Round 2 of the Perennials for Profits Demonstration program, with each of the farmers having areas they will improve with palatable forage shrubs and/or sandalwood.

Sites chosen include:

  • forage shrubs demonstration sites at Nungarin, York and Bonnie Rock
  • sandalwood demonstration sites at Dowerin, Tammin and York
  • forage shrubs and sandalwood demonstration site at Beverley.

Visits have been underway to participating farmers over the last couple of weeks to help them setup up their forage shrub and sandalwood planting plans before harvesting begins for the summer and to get seedling orders into the nursery in time.

A key aspect of the program will be working with the farmers to draw up ‘whole planting plans’ that optimise farm resource condition and profitability for use in the future. Each participant will also have a peer mentor to offer practical advice on planting and management.

Don’t forget that if you’re planning on planting forage shrubs or sandalwood next year, now is the time to be placing your seedling orders for July-August 2017.
