Flower Power is an online tool created by DAFWA to help predict the flowering time of crop varieties, reducing the risk of frost damage and heat stress at flowering time.

The tool is used to select the right variety for the right time of sowing. It doesn’t give a 100% guarantee that all frost events will be avoided by using the app, but it can assist with decision making to reduce frost risk.

The image below shows how the flowering times differ for the three varieties selected and their risk of exposure to frost and heat stress if they are planted in the Kellerberrin area. Flower Power demonstrates the significant variation in flowering times.

Wheatbelt NRM supports the use of Flower Power as part of its partnership with DAFWA in the eConnect Grainbelt Demonstration project.
