Boosting Farm Productivity - By Increasing Lime Application After Subsoil Testing.

Rob Sawyer’s farm in Dalwallinu, WA was experiencing a loss of crop productivity due to subsoil acidity. Wheatbelt NRM helped Rob by providing funding to conduct soil testing to depth in his paddocks along with expert technical support. Previously only topsoil had been tested on the property. The subsoil test results showed that acidity at depth was a concern and was impacting the productivity of crops.
These initial results convinced Rob to complete subsoil testing across his whole property, enabling him to identify the acidity issues and begin correcting them. Since then, lime incorporation and the move to variable rate technology have increased Rob Sawyer’s farm productivity and profitability.
“Increasing the soil pH will improve soil health and therefore increase the productivity of the entire property,” said Rob Sawyer. Wheatbelt NRM supported Rob Sawyer through its ‘Nutrient Use Efficiency’ program with funding from the Australian Government's National Landcare Programme.
