Be like Nelson – Get on top of your foxes NOW!

Wheatbelt NRM have been working with Nelson Wilkin from Youndegin for several years now to protect an amazing patch of kwongan heath.

Nelson was baiting foxes and rabbits regularly to protect native animals in the bushland as well as trapping and shooting.

He had great success during that time and saw wildlife return to the site.

The Crimson chat above is from Nelson’s favourite patch of bush.

In the last year, Nelson’s bating activities had lapsed as life got busier and busier.

Nelson has recently been back in touch asking for assistance with his baiting permit, because his foxes are getting out of control.

Permits to use 1080 bait are arranged through the Department for Primary Industries and Regional Development. The process for application is outlined here: https://redcard.org.au/accreditation

Stay tuned though because Wheatbelt NRM has a number of community workshops coming up through our “Feral Free Futures” that will walk you through the application process.
