The two-way benefits of partnership projects were demonstrated last week as our Noongar Budjar Rangers assisted the WA College of Agriculture, Cunderdin with a saltbush planting project.
As part of the Healthy Soils Healthy Rivers project, the school planted 6400 saltbush seedlings adjacent to the Mortlock River.
These plantings will stabilise the saline site and reduce erosion and runoff into the river. This will also limit nutrients which wash into the system.
The school was excited to have the opportunity to work with the Ranger team and share new skills with them. The Rangers also benefited from the work as they gained experience in using the mechanical tree planter and enjoyed the benefits of the auto-steer tractor.
Leanne Grant Williams, Assistant Farm Manager, appreciated the help. “The Ranger team were great and got the job done. I am hoping we can work on some other projects together in the near future.”
This work is supported by funding from the Rivers and Estuaries Division of DBCA.
