3 year commitment for Noongar Budjar Rangers

The Wheatbelt NRM Noongar Budjar Rangers were very excited to receive news that the Shire of Northam had awarded them the tender to maintain the Northam Cemetery for the next 3 years.

The team has been working 3 days per week for the last two years looking after the grounds of the cemetery but in line with Local Government regulations we had to compete in an open tender process to get the arrangement recontracted.

The cemetery work has been the foundation of an amazing growth in contracts for the team. Since we started with the Shire we have expanded our activity to work with a wide range of organisations including Cunderdin Agricultural College, Greening Australia, Edna May Gold Mine, Carbon Neutral Charitable Trust and some of our small community groups.

The team finds the work at the cemetery very rewarding as they help the community to honour lost friends and relatives and appreciate the praise their efforts receive form visitors.

Wheatbelt NRMs Aboriginal Facilitator, Jermaine Davis said “The Ranger team takes great pride in their work and work hard to ensure the cemetery is always looking its best. We really appreciate the faith the Shire has shown in the team and look forward to working together for another three years.
