This project will bring an essential spatial context to planning within Wheatbelt NRM through an integrated spatial decision support system that will enable an adaptive management approach to strategic carbon investment within the region. Wheatbelt NRM has identified priority action for investment through a Strategy Review; however, this stops short of providing a guide to on-ground carbon planting, wildlife corridors, biodiversity conservation or other NRM activity. Additional work is required to provide a spatial context to priority actions including spatial analysis of recommended actions to increase landscape and community resilience within the Avon River Basin.

The project will involve:

  • Providing access to relevant spatial data
  • Provide Stakeholder engagement
  • Development of an Integrated Spatial Decision Support System (ISDSS)
  • Development of an adaptive planning process
  • Development of an Avon Region NRM planning for climate change web portal
  • Development of extension program, including media articles and workshops
  • Encouraging cross regional collaboration, including participation relevant working and steering groups.
