The Wildflower Society of WA, Avon Branch has a Bushland Garden and a Seed Orchard. They wanted to place signs on the plants to educate local community and visitors to York about the range of native plants in bushland and road verges in and around the York Shire. Plantings include rare plants from the local area provided by the DEC. The seed orchard provides sedd for revegetation projects on farms and elsewhere around York. The pathways and shelter have been there for many years. The garden had be-come rundown and the Wildflower Society took over its maintenance. They found many people wanted to know what the plants were. In 2011 they applied to Wheatbelt NRM for a Small Community Grant to pay for 200 signs.
