A community feral animal cull has given the Regional Men’s Health Initiative a direct boost of nearly $13,000.

The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA) this week handed over the cheque from funds raised through the Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes Autumn shoot.

The Red Card program brings together community members to help stop feral animals damaging the environment.

The shoots are coordinated by natural resources management group Wheatbelt NRM and the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA).

They’re supported through the WA Government’s State NRM program.

More than 800 volunteers took part from Northampton through to Esperance in the Autumn shoot.

They helped eradicate 2428 foxes,150 feral cats and 589 rabbits.

Benefitting from the donation was the Regional Men’s Health Initiative, which aimed to improve the health and wellbeing of men in rural WA.

Spokesman Owen Catto said the funding would go to projects like the Working with Warrior’s DVDs and the annual WACFL Talk to a Mate Footy Round.
 
The SSAA of WA president Ron Bryant said it was a worthy cause.
 
“We appreciate the work Men’s Health does in rural communities, in areas where our members work to help control feral animals,” Ron Bryant said.

The next shoot is planned for later this spring with dates to be posted on the Red Card webpage, www.redcard.org.au
